VIDEO KappeNow: 125 years of music, friendship, and connection: the Haaksbergse Harmonie celebrates a special anniversary year During its 125th anniversary, the Haaksbergse Harmonie demonstrates how music has connected, inspired, and brought people together for generations. In this festive episode of KappeNow, Rob te Lintelo, Brian Blokhorst, and Sanne Slotboom of the Haaksbergse Harmonie take center stage, as the association celebrates its 125th anniversary this year. The association has a rich history dating back to the end of the nineteenth century, when two separate wind orchestras eventually merged into one inclusive music association where everyone is welcome, regardless of background or beliefs. The anniversary year is being celebrated on a grand scale with various activities. On June 13, a concert will take place in the market square, followed by an anniversary weekend in September featuring a reunion, reception, and evening party. Additionally, the Brassicity & Friends event is scheduled for October, where various bands and guest musicians will perform in the large theater hall of the Huis van Haaksbergen. The Harmonie has approximately 110 members and devotes much attention to music education. Through projects such as PIM (Plezier In Muziek - Fun in Music) for children and an orchestra for adult beginners, new generations are made enthusiastic about music. The passing of conductor Hugo Masselink is also commemorated; he was a beloved musician who played a defining role within the association for many years. The common thread running through the conversation is the connecting power of music: young and old play together, families make music collectively, and new friendships are formed. In doing so, the Haaksberg Harmonie continues to demonstrate its social value after 125 years.
