TRIBUN-TIMUR.COM - Police have named a husband and wife, both owners of 10 yellow rice stalls, as suspects for allegedly raping their female employee, identified as K (22), in Makassar City, South Sulawesi. The husband, identified as SK (24), and his wife as SM (39). The couple were named suspects by investigators from the Women and Children Protection Unit (PPA) of the Makassar City Police Criminal Investigation Unit after the victim filed a report on Saturday (January 3, 2026). The suspect status was announced by Makassar City Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Arya Perdana, at a press conference at his office on Jl. Ahmad Yani, Wajo District, Makassar, on Monday (January 5, 2026). Arya explained that the case began when the perpetrator's wife, SM, suspected that her husband, SK, was having an affair with the employee, K. SM's suspicions, Arya continued, led her to force K and her husband, SK, into a room. Inside the room, SM interrogated K and forced him to confess. When asked to have sex with SK, K, Arya said, continued to resist. However, K continued to be tortured by her employer until the indecent act occurred. Arya said SM's motive was to record her husband SK's indecent act with K to serve as evidence to support his suspicions. As a result of her actions, the police named her a suspect. The police are applying Article 6 letter b, letter c in conjunction with Article 14 paragraph 1 letter a, and paragraph 2 of Law Number 12 of 2022 concerning the crime of sexual violence. The crime carries a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison and a maximum fine of IDR 300 million. The victim was raped at her workplace in Rappocini District, Makassar City. She reported the incident to the Makassar Police Department on Jl. Ahmad Yani, Wajo District, on Saturday (January 3, 2026).
