Lyrics and translation: ŪDRIO DAINA Aš papuošiu žirgo galvą pinavijom, Apkaišysiu pavadėlį žaliom rūtom Ir valdovui tartum tėvui, Nusiėmęs kepurėlę, nusilenksiu: -- Duok, valdove, kilpinėlį eiklų, taiklų, Kalaviją ant žarijų žaizdro lietą, Kirvį aštrų, ilgakotį, Kuoką sunkią pakiloti Duok, valdove! Nusibodo girioj stumbrą varinėti, Nusibodo tavo sakalus penėti: Jei medžioti, tai medžioti Nuožmų vanagą - kryžiuotį Priešo žemėj. Aš papuošiu žirgo galvą pinavijom, Apkaišysiu pavadėlį žaliom rūtom, Kad skrajūno mano žirgo Pikto priešo piktos širdys Vis bijotų... Vis bijotų. -- UDRYS' SONG from the opera “PILENAI” by Vytautas Klova libretto by Jonas Mackonis I will dress my stead in flower garlands, Dress the headgear with the greenest rue, To my lord like to the farther, Bending down my hat in hand, I will plead. Lord, give me the swiftest bow and arrows, Give the sword, steeled hard upon a forge, Axe severe with long handhold, Massive bludgeon for the hold, Lord, give me! I am tired of chasing aurochs through the forests, Sick and tired of feeding falcons of yours. If we chase, so let’s go chasing The black hawks, severe crusaders On the field of theirs. I will dress my stead in flower garlands, Dress the headgear with the greenest rue, Let my stead go fly on wings, Making tremble evil harts of Evil enemies. Translated by Inga Deidulė ----- Defence of Pilenai On February 25, 1336 the Teutonic Knights and their guests from Germany, Belgium, Austria and France laid siege around Pilenai Castle in Samogitia, in the land of Trapenai. The defence, led by Margiris, made a valiant effort, but once it became clear that they were unable to withstand the attack, they burned everything and committed mass suicide. In the 19th-20th centuries the history of defence of Pilenai received much attention from the historians and writers, and became a theme of numerous works of art and scholarly research.
