He is currently a Senior Lecturer in Islamic Studies at GIBTU University in Turkey. He was also a Scholar in Residence at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in New York in 2022-23, where he worked on the history of African American Muslims. Between 2017 and 2019, he also served as a representative of the Muslim faith on the interfaith committee of the Grand Est region. He recently published a book on the evolution of legal hermeneutics in contemporary Islamic law, "Collective Ijtihad: The Evolution of Muslim Law" (2024). → Chawkat Moucarry holds a doctorate in religious studies from the École Pratique des Hautes Études. He was responsible for interfaith relations within the French University Bible Groups (1980-1992). He taught Islamic studies at All Nations Christian College in the United Kingdom. He then served as director of interfaith relations for World Vision International, a Christian NGO whose French branch is Vision du Monde. His latest publication is "Islam Under Pressure: Globalization, Islamism, Christianity" (Langham, 2022).
