A place with a thousand-year-old history, where families of mountaineers from the heart of Europe came up with their cattle to exploit remote places that were difficult for local communities to manage. They were the Walser, populations of Germanic origin who still pass on their ancient cultural and linguistic traditions through the few remaining descendants. I consider Peter a Walser of the new millennium, with roots common to those populations but in a totally different era. Peter has decided to spend his retirement on the rugged but wonderful slopes of Alpe Vegliana, contributing with his hard work, his good willpower and also with courageous economic investments to the rebirth of a place now in a complete state of abandonment. In Peter I saw a crystalline person, with a big heart and incredible enthusiasm. What I perceived at Alpe Vegliana is precisely this vitality and "playfulness", it is as if the ancient souls of the people who lived in the past on this mountain pasture had awakened to tell their stories, sitting all together in the Alpe's little square, under a sky lit up with stars, with Peter ready to listen to them and pass them on.
