Why I joined Beattie's Studio - John's story
Hi, I'm John Stephenson from Hobart, Tasmania and this video is about my journey into photography, how I came to the Beattie's Studio Collection and why I am digitising and rephotographing the work of John Watt Beattie (1856-1930) and other Tasmanian photographers. The full collection is available to view FREE on our web site; www.BeattiesStudio.com Forgotten Tasmania shares the wonder of Tasmania with the world. John Watt Beattie left a legacy. He started a passion for Tasmania that is still burning more than one hundred years after his death. His photographic collection gives us a view of Tasmania’s wilderness, industry, our people, both those that arrived in the last 200 years and those that were here before; our indigenous, convict and colonial ancestors. These photographs are an extraordinary window into our past, they can take us back in time and show us how things have stayed the same or changed with the ebb and flow of history.
