Achouffe Gundogs & The Slovakian Rough Haired Pointer

If you have an interest in working gundog you will not have failed to witness the growth in HPRs. The Hunters, Pointers and Retrievers that have appeared from Europe in recent years. Breeds like the Weimaraner and the German Wirehaired Pointer are fast becoming a common sight during a day’s shooting across the UK. But here we look at a minority breed of HPR, which according to Achouffe Gundogs ticks all the boxes, it is the Slovakian Rough Haired Pointer. The breed first appeared in the British Isles a couple of decades ago, as an amalgamation of other HPR breeds that were refined by hunters post World War Two in Eastern Europe. Today, the breed is growing in popularity, with a growing number of working gundogs; leading this is Achouffe Gundogs who breed, train and work the Slovakian Rough Haired Pointer, in addition to being actively involved in the Slovakian Rough Haired Pointer Club.
