Six-Time Mr Olympia: I Won't Squat Again

I sat down with Dorian Yates at the Ultimate Men's Health Retreat, and one answer he gave me has stayed with me since. Dorian's had both hips and knees replaced, and his advice to anyone facing the same decision is blunt: stop delaying the surgery. But the real lesson wasn't the medical advice, it was what came after it. Dorian doesn't train to be the best bodybuilder in the world anymore, because that was never the actual objective, it was always a means to an end. Now he trains for what he genuinely needs, which is muscle maintenance, cardio, and mobility, and nothing more. When his objective changed, his training changed with it, and he stopped squatting the moment the risk stopped justifying the reward. That's the whole argument. Pain is not something to push through blindly. It is data, and the strongest thing you can do with it is listen.
