What You'll Need Thermal protectant shine spray Curling iron Soft brush Step 1: Prep Hair Prepare the hair by washing it and drying it down so that it's sleek. Part the hair straight down the middle of the head.  Step 2: Section Hair It's best to work on each side of the head in order, beginning with one side then moving to the back and then the opposite side.  Start with the front section of the hair closest to the face. This style works great if you have shorter fringe or bangs on the sides of your face.  After the front section, continue moving around the head in small sections. Divide each side of the head into lower and upper sections.  Tip: Try to be consistent with the sizes of your sections on each side of the head.  When you're working in the back of the head, section the top in the shape of a horseshoe with the sides higher up and the middle lower down.  Tip: As you move around the head, it's a good idea to curl the bottom sections first and the top sections after. Step 3: Spray Hair Spray each individual section of hair with the thermal protectant shine spray before curling it. Use a comb to coat the hair thoroughly.  Step 4: Curl Hair Then clamp the curling iron onto a section of hair. Start the curl about two inches from the roots so that the hair will be sleek around the crown and have more volume below. Hold the curling iron vertically and wrap the hair around it, away from the face. When you're curling the hair, remember to be consistent with the direction of your curls.  After the iron has warmed the hair, slide it out of the curl.  Step 5: Combine Curls When you finish each side of the head, combine the upper and lower curls by twisting them together with your fingers.  Step 6: Polish the Look Now that you have the base of the style, you can finish it off in two ways. Run your fingers through the curls to break them up and make a softer look. Then shake out the hair and leave it as is.  You can also spray a soft brush with hair spray and then brush it through the curls to help mold them into shape.
