ANTONIO CARLOS - SC - SOUTH OF BRAZIL It was in 1830 that some Germans , led by John Henry Schöeting , braved the plain of the River Bay and began the effective colonization of the lands that would compose the town of Antonio Carlos . The story says that ten families started settling first in Laurel and later in Rachadel and Santa Maria . The immigrants came from the German state of Rhineland - Palatinate , especially the highland Hunsrück . Had been installed in the first German colony of Santa Catarina , São Pedro de Alcântara , local and hard soil unsuitable for agriculture . So we were in search of new places and found the next Biguaçu the river plains . The greatest legacy left by German immigrant was a fearless force to work the lands of Antonio Carlos . His descendants built throughout the twentieth century an expressive cultural heritage. Remained the main customs and lifted the municipality with order and determination.
