25 Years of Gaming for $25

👉The cheapest real handheld in retro gaming is the R36S, which I grabbed for a hair over $25 shipped. This one little slab of AliExpress plastic plays roughly 25 years of games, from Atari through NES, GameBoy, GameBoy Advance, and all the way up through the Playstation 1 library. And that's amazing. You can have your entire childhood in your pocket for basically the same price as a large pizza and a six pack of wings. In this video, I walk you through getting into the hobby for the lowest price and the lowest effort possible, including the scary parts: the R36S is also the most cloned device in the hobby, so I show you how to buy the right one and not get stuck with a fake. At this point, AliExpress is basically just Amazon with a worse web design, so there's nothing to be afraid about. If you have even a passing interest in old games, or maybe someone in your life does, check out this video and see what you've been missing. 8-bit and 16-bit are flawless. Game Boy and Game Boy Advance run beautifully, which is most of why this thing covers 25 years. PS1 is great. N64 is rough though, so set your expectations there. Anything past that, don't bother. That's the deal at this price, and for a lot of people it's the whole hobby. Down the road, once you've caught the bug, you can get into custom firmware and really make it yours, but that's a few months away, not a today thing.
