Tanzania - Repatriation for refugees

(10 Dec 1996) T/I: 11:12:01 The International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC) started a double food distribution programme on Tuesday (10/12) for more than 500,000 Rwandan Hutu refugees living in Tanzania, as part of a repatriation programme to persuade them to return to Rwanda. The Rwandan and Tanzanian governments agreed last week that Rwandan refugees should return home from Tanzania by 31 December this year. UNHCR and other aid agencies are providing transportation and double food rations for the trip home.
