Let's explore the depths of it in the video. Anakin was surprised to hear that the chancellor wanted to speak to him right after the Battle of Geonosis. No doubt he wanted to get the details of what took place from someone who was there, but he wondered why he did not approach Obi-Wan or Padme, who were more experienced in this. Or perhaps the Jedi Masters, who led the rescue effort. It was strange for a lowly Padawan to be called into the Chancellor's office. When the doors open and the chancellor greets him, Anakin feels a familiar welcome wash over him that helps put him at ease. The chancellor is a kindly looking man, appearing more suited to taking care of grandchildren and relaxing at a lakeside estate than leading a government at war. But he seems to rise to the challenge with surprising energy, vowing to do everything in his power to stop the growing CIS threat from blooming out of proportion. Many are pleased with the energy the chancellor brings as he has already issued a flurry of speeches and press releases, vowing to fight the Separatists and put an end to their madness. As Anakin enters now, he is interested in something else, wanting to speak of what happened and what he saw. Not just in the arena, but before that, when he arrived to rescue Obi-Wan. So Anakin obliges and explains everything he’s seen. The factories, the speeches made by Dooku, and how they are rolling out billions, if not quadrillions, of droids, enough to simply sweep across the galaxy without the clone and other forces. He worries that Dooku is hoping to amass a coalition beyond the CIS Council, but from disenfranchised worlds as well. Palpatine: My boy, I will not lie. What you speak of now. It is incredibly troubling to hear, but I understand that as chancellor, I must know everything. So I thank you for this. I know it cannot be easy for you as well, given everything that's happened. Anakin: These past few days have been trying, I admit. But rest assured, I will do everything I can to serve the Republic. Palpatine: That is very good to hear. In fact, I have heard good things about you from your master's report. When you were pursuing Count Dooku, you had encountered trouble, and Senator Amidala was nearly lost. Anakin: Yes, during the battle, our ship was struck, and she fell out. I wished to return for her, but Obi-Wan insisted we press on. Palpatine: I see. That must have been quite difficult. I understand you and the senator are close. You were her protector, after all. To see her put in harm's way and then decide to leave her must have been difficult. Anakin: It was, Chancellor. Palpatine: But it is good to know that your Jedi training was able to help you keep a cool head and that you are prepared to make difficult decisions when the time comes, especially after undergoing your recent hardships. Anakin’s eyes narrow at the way he says that. It sounds innocent enough, but there is a strange undertone in his words. They are vague, but he senses the chancellor knows more than he is letting on. He never speaks of what hardship he’s experienced, but the chancellor speaks of them with such certainty as if he already knows what he’s talking about. It is too slimy, too political, and it gives Anakin a strong sense of rejection when he touches his shoulder. Slowly, the Padawan rises and requests if he can return to the Temple and rest after the events of this battle. Palpatine smiles knowingly and allows him to go, saying his office is already open if he wants to talk. Anakin nods in thanks for this and prepares to head back. However, upon his return, Anakin does not rest. Instead, he approaches Obi-Wan and asks him about what he learned on Geonosis from Dooku. His master explains that Dooku claims there is another Sith Lord among them. He is just a student, and the real master is someone in the Senate, someone who has been pulling the strings. Obi-Wan thinks that this is just a ploy to misdirect the Jedi and distract them, but Anakin is starting to have second thoughts. #starwars #starwarswhatif #whatif
