Afropop Living Room Sessions: Kotoko Brass and Mohammed Alidu

For this second Afropop Living Room Session, Kotoko Brass is joined by Ghanaian musician Mohammed Alidu, who sings and performs on the lunga talking drum, a traditional instrument of northern Ghana. Kotoko Brass brings together the traditional drumming of central Ghana, Caribbean rhythm section grooves, and the bright horn energy of New Orleans to create what the Boston Globe has called “propulsive, infectious party music.” The band was founded by brothers Ben and Brian Paulding and includes master Ghanaian percussionists Attah Poku and Kwame Ofori alongside a seasoned rhythm and horn section. The collaboration brings together musical traditions from different regions of Ghana in a performance grounded in rhythm, dance, and collective celebration.
