Amina Ali: The Traditional Birth Attendant

Amina Ali was once a traditional birth attendant in Afar. She was also an ex circumciser. Each time she cut an infant girl, the pain broke her heart. But she believed it was required by religion and tradition. She believed it protected girls and secured their future. Then one seminar changed everything. Amina learned that the suffering she saw during childbirth was linked to FGM. Today, she is an anti FGM advocate, working to change the same community she once followed. This is her transformation.
