213. Stop Waiting: Fix the Frontal Lisp in Preschool (Before It’s Too Late)

The reality is that /s/ is one of the most frequently used sounds in the English language. By the time a child reaches kindergarten, they may have practiced that incorrect motor pattern hundreds of thousands of times. Practice doesn’t make perfect. Practice makes permanent. We also know from long-term data that certain errors persist into adulthood, and the frontal lisp is one of them. Add in early neuroplasticity, and you have a narrow window where change is easier, faster, and more efficient. Miss that window, and you’re working against years of established motor patterns. In this episode, I break down a completely different approach than what you’ll find in traditional articulation therapy. We’re not isolating /s/. We’re not over-explaining tongue placement to a preschooler who isn’t developmentally ready for that level of metacognition. Instead, we’re using incompatible motor patterns, strategic positioning, and powerful phonetic contexts that make the lisp nearly impossible to produce.
