Incident: On December 10, 2024, a Chesterfield Township Police officer observed a vehicle operating without a license plate displayed and initiated a traffic stop. During the investigation, the officer noticed both occupants displaying unusually nervous behavior. After the passenger refused consent to search a backpack inside the vehicle, a Chesterfield Township Police K-9 unit was requested to conduct a free-air sniff around the vehicle. The K-9 alerted to the odor of narcotics, giving officers probable cause to search the vehicle. During the search, officers recovered more than 25 grams of cocaine, along with digital scales, plastic baggies, a knife, and multiple credit cards belonging to the passenger. Officers also located a false-bottom can of corn, a concealment container designed to appear factory sealed while hiding contraband inside. The passenger was identified as Sean Koponen and was transported to the Chesterfield Township Police Department, where Sean was charged with Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute before being released with charges pending.
