Squier by Fender Debut Collection™ Telecaster® - The Most Affordable Fender Squier Telecaster

Most of us have seen videos covering the Squier Debut Series Stratocaster exclusively sold through Amazon. I made a video here on Guitar Collector Guy where I did a review of the guitar and then modded the guitar with new electronics and pickups. I recently gave the guitar to a friend of mine who is learning how to play guitar and he loves it. I was surprised at the quality of most of the components of the Debut Stratocaster. Primarily the neck and the body seemed to be a good quality for such an inexpensive guitar. I had read some things about a Telecaster version of the Debut series of guitars, and I searched around and could not find even a used guitar for sale. I discovered that they were being sold in Europe and the UK. I tried an experiment and went on Amazon and changed my country origin to the UK. Low and behold there was the elusive guitar for sale. I tried to purchase one and to my surprise Amazon took my order. I have to be honest that I thought any moment for sure that Amazon would realize I was in the US and cancel my order. A week later Amazon UK shipped me a guitar. They did however charge me $50 in shipping. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fender-Colle... The other day FedEx dropped a large box off on my front porch and when I opened it I found my Amazon Squier Debut Telecaster in a Matte/Satin red finish. The guitar is basically a Sonic Squier Telecaster with the same load from the top six saddle bridge. Even the neck looks identical to a Squier Sonic Telecaster neck. If you did not tell me, it was one of the Squier Debut series guitars I would just assume it was from the Sonic line. Here is the Fender Description of the Squier Debut Telecaster: The Squier Debut Telecaster is an electric guitar designed by Fender in California for beginners, both adults and children. It has a thin, lightweight body, a slim "C"-shaped neck, and a comfortable playing feel. Here are some specifications for the Squier Debut Telecaster: • Body: Poplar, 1.6 in thick • Neck: Maple ® • Fretboard: Indian laurel a • Scale length: 25.5 in a • Fretboard radius: 9.5 in & • Nut: 1.62 in a • Frets: 21 o • Hardware: Chrome • Pickups: Two single-coil with 3-way switching. I went over the guitar and found the following. The pickups are two ceramic magnet based single coil telecaster pickups. The electronics are very inexpensive post, switches, and components. The neck pickup routing looks as though it will handle pickups including the installed single coil, full size humbucker, and a p90. The overall fit and finish of the guitar is surprisingly good. I am especially enthusiastic about the neck. The neck has no sharp edges on the edge of the fretboard as I run my hand up and down the sides. There was not a single fret that I found fret rocking. Let me repeat that – no fret rocking. The tuners are adequate. I wish though they had followed suit of the Debut Stratocaster and had the modern sealed tuners but with split shafts. This guitar instead has the old style inexpensive Squier tuners. Everything worked out of the box. Intonation was properly set from the factory and the string height was high but playable. Here is the amazing thing about this guitar – it is a great out of the box experience and would allow a novice/beginner to have a functioning guitar that they could then proceed to learn how to play the instrument. For what it is designed to be – what more can you ask for? I did not and do not like top loader telecaster bridges and really had hoped for a string through like the new Affinity telecasters. But it did give me a great idea. I saw a picture the other day were someone took this very bridge and put a Bigsby b5 behind it and not only did it fit – it worked. I just happen to have a b5 in the shop without a home. Here is what I plan to do in the next video. • I plan on replacing the tuners with Graphtec Ratio Tuners. • I may replace the nut. • I will condition the Indian Laurel fretboard. • I will install a new set of Fender Vintera 50s Telecaster Alnico 5 pickups, and I will build a custom modern wiring harness with quality components. • I will install the Bigsby b5 tremolo system on the guitar.
