VASILE GĂMAN - Un adevărat patriot român (Lunca, Vânători-Neamț, Romania)

A visit to the village of Lunca (Vânători-Neamț commune, near Târgu Neamț) to the Ethnographic Museum of Mr. Vasile Găman, brings at least a double gain. On the one hand we admire the ethnographic collection gathered over 50 years, on the other hand we witness a lesson in history and patriotism real, sincere, emotional, as I have not see so far. The ethnographic collection, of which most of the exhibits are either Vasile Găman's own creations, or objects belonging to his family, we presented here:    • Muzeul etnografic VASILE GĂMAN (Lunca, Vân...  . The story of these exhibits is constantly intertwined with the memories of the creator, resulting in a vivid narrative. The beginning of the museum is related to its accommodation in the old parental house inhabited by Vasile Găman's ancestors: his great-grandfather fought in 1877 in the War of Independence, his grandfather in the First World War, and his father died in the Cotu Donului disaster (World War II). As you can see, a family of patriots. The memories from the early childhood of Mr. Vasile Găman are related to the terrible battles that took place in the summer of 1944 at Borta Dracului (The Devil Hole), located in the vicinity of the village. It is about the attempt of the Soviet army to break through the Romanian defense on the Pleşu Ridge in order to open its way to Transylvania, to Berlin. The Soviet attack was initially successful, but the Romanians counterattacked repelling them, the key moment being marked by the German artillery that fired with incendiary projectiles, in the Borta Dracului area killing both Soviets and Romanians, many burned alive, many remaining unburied for years, marking the bloodiest massacre on the Romanian territory in the Second World War.
