Paul Badura-Skoda Plays Schubert's Piano Sonata No. 22 in A. (1978).

Paul Badura-Skoda (1927-2019) was an Austrian pianist. Considered among the best pianists of his time, he was known for playing a wide repertoire of piano music, including many recordings on original period instruments. He was, however, particularly well known for his Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert. This sonata (D. 959) was among the last three composed by Schubert who died shortly after composing these three pieces at the young age of 31. Some scholars have focused on the second movement that is considered to be aberrational compared to Schubert's other works. Some have attributed this unusual movement to the effects of the illness that would eventually cause composer's death.
