when we're sick or physically hurt, allowing our body to heal naturally keeps it strong and healthy and enables us to recover faster with future injuries - it also helps us grow stronger to prevent future illness - for example, antibiotics that help speed up recovery, also make our bodies weaker and more prone to future sickness... rather than allowing our body to fight and overcome the illness and grow stronger. The same is true for emotional pain - by seeking quick fixes like re-bound relationships, alcohol, drugs and or other stimulants and distractions to keep us away from facing our pain, we not only can prolong the healing process, but also miss out on the incredible gift of strength, confidence and power that comes through working through our emotional hardships.
