Speaking to host Faheem Siddiqui on the program FIR on Day News, Zaidi remarked: "We all have the same father, but Karachi has a stepmother who has never been willing to give us our rightful share." He said that all major political parties—including the Pakistan Muslim League (PML) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)—have treated Karachi like a stepchild. According to him, Nawaz Sharif, Imran Khan, and Shehbaz Sharif have never even spent a single night in Karachi. Speaking in a metaphorical manner, Zaidi further said that the stepmother's own children are no longer able to earn, while it is only the stepchild that continues to generate the country's wealth. Pakistan survives on the income produced by this stepchild, yet it receives little in return. Responding to a question about why agricultural income is not taxed despite its importance for improving Pakistan's economy, Zaidi said: "The feudal landlords are the vote bank of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), while the business and trading class forms the vote bank of the Pakistan Muslim League (PML).
