How Cairns broke a mass waterskiing record nearly 40 years ago 🛥️ 🌞🏆 | ABC Australia

In a feat that would pretty much be impossible today, a group of passionate water-skiers strode onto the naval base in Cairns nearly 40 years ago to execute an audacious plan to get into the Guinness Book of World Records. Ten deep crowds lined the foreshore to watch 100 water skiers get towed behind a tourist ferry on October 18, 1986. The record stood for more than 20 years before being broken by a Tasmanian contingent on its eighth attempt. ABC Tropical North caught up with the skiers from the 1986 record including one who was just 11 years old at the time.
