México biocultural - Área de protección de flora y fauna Yum Balam (05/07/2022)

In this episode, we'll meet the Maya Dzak group, who, in addition to working to preserve the value of traditional medicine, promote the reforestation of the region's plants to contribute to environmental conservation. We'll visit the Yalahau Tourist Center, part of a protected natural reserve, and discover conservation efforts in the Santa Paula Canal and Cabo Catoche. At Punta Mosquito, we'll learn about migratory birds and the work of biologists. Additionally, artisan Ángela Manzano will demonstrate one of the local crafts: macramé weaving. Finally, we'll observe some biological monitoring activities focused on birds and the different species that inhabit the area. The pre-Hispanic music group Huuca Been Paax will share their history and the origins of this tradition. Finally, the artisans of Punta Laguna will tell us how this initiative arose in their community and about the various objects they create.
