What Happened to Billboard Boxcars? | History in the Dark

Starting in the 1920's, someone had the novel idea to utilize all that empty space on railroad boxcars for advertising purposes. Sometimes called billboard boxcars, or reefers, these pieces of rolling stock would be a moving advertisement for whichever company secured the space. But the practice was banned in the 1930's.
