Slowing Parkinson’s: An Update on the Slow-SPEED Study
Dr. Bastiaan Bloem, Dr. Sirwan Darweesh, and Dr. Ruth Schneider discuss the recent launch of the US arm of the global Slow-SPEED study, which is exploring whether exercise can prevent people at high risk of Parkinson’s from actually developing Parkinson’s. This study is seeking participants at higher than normal risk of developing Parkinson’s based on the fact that they have a particular LRRK2 or GBA genetic variant. This means that those already diagnosed with Parkinson’s are not eligible to participate—but their family members may be.
