Leyla McCalla - Sun Without the Heat | A Take Away Show

A Take Away Show with ‪@LeylaMcCallaOfficial‬ Shot at Golborne Road, London - July 2024 Here’s a song of hope and transformation. Leyla McCalla wrote it on guitar but here she is playing it on the cello in a street of London. We met her around Ladbroke Grove, which is where the Notting Hill carnival happens every year. 'Sun Without the Heat' references a speech given by Frederick Douglass in 1857. 'You want the crops without the plow / You want the rain without the thunder / You want the ocean without the roar of its waters’. Adressing a room full of white abolitionists, Douglass was talking about the upheaval necessary to create a more equitable society. Leyla found these words so beautiful and strong that she kept singing them. 'These wounds are so old', she sings. 'The road is long'. But her voice makes you want to have faith in that change. 00:00 Intro 00:27 Sun Without the Heat Directed by James Hough Sound Directed by Max McNeilly & Igor Moreno Production by Esther Blondel Assisted by Alice Delalle Post production by Louise Lemarchand & Sofiane Salhi Communication by Simon Dumottier Special thanks to Café O'Porto © 2024 - Blogothèque - Epitaph — Want to see more?
