Lost Village of Nether Hambleton - The Story of Rutland Water

Video shows our visit to Rutland Water which is now over 50 years old. We looked into the stoy of its creation and what happened to the small village of Nether Hambleton. It All started back in the 1960s when A reservoir was needed to supply water to the expanding East Midlands population . Once started, the reservoir took almost a decade to complete. Work started in 1971. Water was diverted from the Rivers Nene and Welland. It took 4 years to fill. At the western end was the village of Nether Hambleton, a small scattered community of houses and farms, it was a devastating blow to the villagers to learn that they would lose their homes and some their livelihoods. Although There was fierce opposition to the building of the reservoir it is now a fantastic amenity to the local area a great place to see wildlife and enjoy activities including walking, bike hire, water sports and fishing. making Rutland Water a major recreational hub for the East Midlands. #rutland #réservoir #lostvillage
