How the TacoBox improves your truck's off-road capability
In this video BigMike demonstrates how off-road performance is increased with the Marlin Crawler TacoBox, showcasing the differences from stock low range (with 5.29:1 R&P = 54:1), the TacoBox in Single Low (99:1), and the TacoBox in Double Low, aka our "Ultimate" final drive ratio (254:1). Developed in the spring of 2000 and based on Marlin's time-proven 1994 Dual Case design, the TacoBox now fits most modern OBD-II type Toyota 4WD drivetrains ranging from Tacoma, 4Runner, FJ Cruiser, T100, Sequoia, GX470, and Tundra automatic or manual transmission 2.7-, 3.4-, 3.5-, 4.0-, and 4.7-liter engine configurations. The TacoBox is installed between your existing transmission and transfer case, and transforms your original two-speed transfer case (1.00:1, 2.57:1) into a four-speed transfer case (1.00:1, 2.57:1, 4.70:1, 12.08:1) with a 2WD Low Range (4.70:1 2WD). All factory ratios are preserved and the vehicle may be operated as if the TacoBox was not there by simply shifting it into High Range (1.00:1): ABS, traction control, cruiser control, city/highway road driving, MPG, acceleration, braking, shift points, clutch engagement, original 4WD low range ratio and speeds, original off-road experience, and so on, all function 100% as before the TacoBox was installed. Price for the fully assembled TacoBox with our famous Marlin Crawler warranty is in the $2,200 range. If you have a 4-speed auto, the TacoBox will add 8 new forward and 2 new reverse gears turning your truck into a 20-speed. If you have a 5-speed auto or manual, the TacoBox will add 10 new forward and 2 new reverse gears turning your truck into a 24-speed. If you have a 6-speed auto or manual, the TacoBox will add 12 new forward and 2 new reverse gears turning your truck into a 28-speed. Installation in most applications is straight-forward: As your transfer case is moved back about 8-inches, your front and rear drive lines are lengthened and shortened, respectively. Driveline shops typically charge around $250 to re-lengthen and balance. Crossmember mods are optional in most applications. A new shifter is fitted in the interior and can be positioned anywhere with up to approximately a 6-inch radius from the TacoBox unit itself. Please see our Interior Shifter Picture Archive for various examples of shifter placement: https://www.marlincrawler.com/tech/tr...
