1924 : Penerbangan Perdana Belanda–Batavia
In 1924, the world witnessed a significant milestone in the history of colonial aviation: the first long-distance flight from the Netherlands to Batavia (now Jakarta). This transcontinental air journey signaled the Dutch ambition to connect Europe and the Dutch East Indies by air, expediting communication, administration, and advancing colonial interests. This historic flight covered thousands of kilometers across Europe, the Middle East, India, and Southeast Asia, facing the challenges of extreme weather, the limitations of early 20th-century aircraft technology, and high navigational risks. The success of this mission laid the foundation for the development of civil and military aviation in the Dutch East Indies, ushering in a new era of international air transport. After a grueling transcontinental journey, the aircraft finally arrived in Batavia, Dutch East Indies, and landed at Cililitan Airport (now Halim Perdanakusuma Airport) on November 24, 1924. The documentation of the 1924 Netherlands–Batavia flight not only reflects technological advancements but also illustrates how aviation became a crucial tool in colonial strategy and global modernization.
