Just Friends - A Short Film on Black Love | The Jordans Create

Just Friends - When two long-time friends take a chance and go on their first date, what will become of their friendship? Will it make them or break them? Writer/Director's Note - Kellianne Rae Jordan Just Friends is a short film about two long-time best friends and musicians who take the leap and go on their first date, unsure of how their decision will shape their future. I wrote and co-directed this film in 2021 as a way to process the grief of losing my grandfather, who was married to my grandmother for over 60 years. They met in college while singing in the same choir, a love story that always inspired me. Sadly, on January 25th, 2025, they were reunited in death, but their legacy of love lives on. This project was also my entry point into directing, for real. Since then, I’ve grown as both a writer and director. I believe showcasing the beauty and longevity of Black love is a radical act. So much of our history was shaped by efforts to divide us, to break up families and erase our connections. When mainstream media limits these narratives, we must find a way to tell them. It’s important to me to highlight Black love, joy, and truth, to tell the stories that shape us and celebrate the relationships that make us who we are. ------------- Cast: Leo V.
