«Буду до останнього подиху у своїй хаті»: історія 74-річної Валентини з прифронтової Сергіївки
74-year-old Valentyna from the village of Serhiivka in the Andriivska community of Donetsk region lives on a street where only she and two neighbors remain - the rest of the people have moved out. The woman gets around with two walking sticks, but she cultivates nine hundred hectares of vegetable garden and takes care of the flower garden with irises on her own. Her dog Zhoryk lives with her. Flowers for Valentyna are a memory of loss: two years ago one of her daughters died, and a year ago her husband. The walls in the house, the woman says, tremble almost every night from shelling. In her free time, Valentyna looks through old photographs and mentally talks to her relatives who are no longer there. "My mother survived World War II. I look at the photograph and say: 'Mom, mom, you went through the war, but you don't know what kind of war we are going through...'" How Valentyna lives is in the material of Suspilne Donbas. The material was prepared with the support of the International Journalists Insurance Fund project, implemented by the Association of Independent Regional Publishers of Ukraine, which is part of the Voices of Ukraine / SAFE program, coordinated by the European Center for Press and Media Freedom. Voices of Ukraine / SAFE is implemented within the framework of the Hannah Arendt Initiative with the support of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany. #war #donbas #donetsk #publicdonbas Author: Yulia Pidhola Camera: Oleksandr Buryak Director: Yulia Berezhna Official page of the branch of the Public Broadcaster.
