The maiden edition of the Ijesa Real Estate Summit, themed “Rebuilding Ijesaland through Real Estate Development,” has brought together key stakeholders to chart a new path for sustainable growth in the region’s property sector. Held in Ilesa, the summit convened government representatives, traditional leaders, investors, legal practitioners, development experts, and youth groups to explore opportunities, address challenges, and strengthen collaboration aimed at transforming the real estate landscape of Ijesaland. Speakers at the event emphasized the importance of increased commercial activity, improved regulatory frameworks, and structured investment in housing and infrastructure. Concerns were also raised over Nigeria’s housing deficit, with calls for a more functional mortgage financing system to support mass homeownership. Legal experts warned against fraudulent real estate practices, urging the public to engage only licensed professionals, while developers highlighted the need for unity, networking, and greater participation especially among women in the sector. The summit also explored the intersection of culture and development, noting the economic impact of events like the Iwude Ijesa Festival and the untapped potential of tourism assets such as the Olumirin Waterfall in Erin-Ijesa. Youth empowerment took centre stage, with stakeholders identifying real estate as a viable pathway for job creation, entrepreneurship, and financial independence for young people. Convener of the summit, Mr. Aluko Ayoola, reiterated the need for improved awareness, proper documentation of properties, and stronger government regulation, particularly in housing rent and dispute resolution. He also revealed plans to establish a Real Estate and Vocational Training School in Ilesa in collaboration with diaspora partners.
