One Life to Live 1/9/1990

Renee congratulates Tina on her pardon. Tina fills her in on the fragile state of her marriage. Dan tells Gabrielle that Max’s condition continues to improve and that it really is a miracle. With Gabrielle’s help, Max remembers the shooting. Andy gets a call from the hospital telling her Max is awake and recovering well, and she passes the good news on to Jon. Jon is surprised to run into his friend and former business partner Cassie Callison (Ava Haddad). Cassie is in town promoting Mendorran arts and culture, and she says her mother Dorian will soon be back in Llanview as well. Cassie asks how things are going with Audrey and he explains she’s left town indefinitely; after finding and reclaiming her son, she decided not to uproot his life. Cord spots Debra with a suitcase and asks if she’s sneaking out of town without saying goodbye. She says she’s just helping Gabrielle move into the Waterside Inn. When Cord’s meeting is canceled, he offers to help Debra carry Gabrielle’s things up to her room. Tina spots them coming down the hotel stairs together and assumes the worst. Cord explains why things weren’t what they looked (and sounded) like. Gabrielle wakes up and silently gathers her things, leaving Max’s hospital room. At Max’s Place, a mobster identifying himself as Mort tries to extort Andy into paying $1,000 a week for protection. She resists and things are about to become physical when Renee enters and gets Mort to leave. As the ladies breathe a sigh of relief, Mort calls his partner and they agree they’ll have to show Andy how dangerous the neighborhood can be so she’ll have no choice but to pay for their protection. Renee thinks they should hold off on calling the police until they see if Mort plans to come back or if they’ve put him off for good. Cassie and Tina meet for lunch. Cassie’s mission to promote the Mendorran arts gives Tina an idea for how to handle her rival, and she asks Cassie whether the Mendorran Ballet might still be interested in hiring Debra. Gabrielle tells Sister Amelia that Max is on the road to recovery and that she wants to join
