Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors adapts a classic 1911 novel by Ukrainian writer Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky about his stay in the Hutsul region of the Carpathian mountains. Ivan falls in love with Marchka, the daughter of his father's killer. With bold style the film celebrates aspects of Hutsul life and incorporates elements of folklore.
