From Wheat Farms to Gold Mines | WA Road Trip to Kalgoorlie

We’re continuing our Western Australia road trip and starting the journey east from the Wheatbelt to the historic gold mining city of Kalgoorlie. Along the way we experience life on a working wheat farm near Moora, where Paul gets the chance to drive a massive harvester and learn how grain is processed and graded before it leaves the farm. From there we visit one of the most unusual towns in Australia — New Norcia, the country’s only monastic town founded by Spanish Benedictine monks in 1847. Our journey east then takes an unexpected turn when we realise many rural fuel stations are closed on Sundays… and we’re running dangerously low on fuel while trying to reach Southern Cross. Thankfully we make it to Kalgoorlie where we spend a few days exploring the historic gold mining town. Wenda takes a walking tour through the heritage streets while Paul visits the famous Super Pit to see one of the largest open-cut gold mines in the world. This episode wraps up our time in Western Australia before we continue east across the Nullarbor into South Australia.
