“I’m trying to be like the Broward County Gucci Man,” says Koly P, posted up at his bustling Pompano Beach corner store the Koly Stop. “The spotlight is on us now," he says of South Florida's rap scene. "It’s just what are we gonna do with it?” During our recent road trip to Rolling Loud in Miami, the Mass Appeal video squad had to make a quick detour out to the neighborhood known as Lil Mexico where we checked in at the spot where Koly’s dead homies are memorialized on the walls. The Florida rapper responsible for street anthems like “Gooked Out,” featuring his homie Kodak Black and Baton Rouge legend Boosie Badazz, speaks on that real street life on projects like his 2016 ‘Koly Bible’ mixtape. It was right here at the Koly Stop that he suffered a gunshot wound to his hand back in March, but he’s all healed up and pushing ‘Koly Bible 2’ hand to hand.
