At that time, Baran, still a child, lost his mother, Ayten. His father, Kudret, lost his speech and became wheelchair-bound. Baran and his brother, Cihan, were raised by their grandmother, Azade, also known as Hanımağa. She constantly reminded them that, according to tradition, the vendetta had to be carried out. On the other side of this conflict was Seyid, who had moved to Istanbul with his family and managed to disappear for many years.
