Anaphora & Sandikala Ensemble present the making of EMBAT

Shot in October 2024, this documentary traces back to the first creative residency undergone in Yogyakarta (IND) at Institut Français by Anaphora and the javanese gamelan group Sandikala Ensemble for the making of EMBAT, with interviews by Amalia (formerly Filippo) Deorsola, Yustiawan Paradigma Umar, Roni Dryiastoto. EMBAT is a transcultural platform dedicated to hybridity in sound and focuses in particular on forming creative bridges between Indonesian and European artists developing experimental, daring and radically collaborative musical practices. The first iteration of EMBAT, featuring Anaphora (ITA/FR) and Sandikala Ensemble (IND) released on Autres Records (April 2026). Each musician in involved contributed one amongst six pieces for jazz quartet and retuned javanese gamelan instruments. Threading together jazz, javanese gamelan, improvisation and contemporary music through rhythmical and timbrical explorations, EMBAT offers an image of sound as a web of voices that, through their difference but equally their resonance, come together across cultural and musical borders to create something new. find more about EMBAT : https://autresrecords.bandcamp.com/al...
