When there is a dispute regarding a land, it becomes very difficult for a person to bear it. That is why people even commit murders over land-related issues. Land cases are filed in the District Court. However, since it takes a long time to reach a final decision regarding ownership of land, as a temporary solution to prevent conflicts between the parties, cases relating to possession are filed under Section 66 of the Primary Courts’ Procedure Act, and such cases are handled by the Primary Court or the Magistrate’s Court in Sri Lanka.
