APN Webinar: Pharmacogenetics of modern antiretrovirals in Southern Africans

Dr. Tinashe Mazhindu welcomed Prof. Phumla Sinxadi, a clinical pharmacologist, to present on HIV pharmacogenetics, focusing on the use of dolutegravir and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) in Southern Africans. Prof. Phumla discussed the weight gain associated with antiretroviral therapy, particularly with integrase inhibitors and Tenofo Aliphenamide, and the genetic polymorphisms associated with drug exposure, efficacy, and toxicity of dolutegravir. The webinar session also covered the advantages of attaching a pharmacogenomic study to a clinical trial, and the mechanism behind the association between Dolutegrave and weight gain.
