Will AI Take Your Job? How AI Is Changing the Future of Work

Will AI take your job — or are we asking the wrong question? Artificial intelligence is changing the way we work, but I don’t believe the biggest story is simply about AI replacing people. It’s about how AI will change the tasks that make up our jobs, the skills that will become more valuable, and the new careers that could emerge as a result. In this first episode of my AI & The Future of Work series, I explore what the rise of AI could mean for knowledge workers — from HR, Finance and Marketing to SharePoint, Information Architecture, Knowledge Management and the Digital Workplace. We’ll look at why history suggests technology often replaces parts of jobs rather than entire professions, and why the better question may not be: “Will AI replace my job?” But: “Which parts of my job could AI help me do — and what does that allow me to do instead?” I also explore why I believe: AI literacy could become an expected workplace skill, just like email and Excel. AI doesn’t magically fix messy information — it depends on trusted information. Information Architecture, governance, metadata and content ownership could become even more important in the AI era. SharePoint isn’t disappearing — it may simply become increasingly invisible as AI changes how we access organisational knowledge. New roles such as AI Readiness Architect, Knowledge Architect, AI Governance Lead and Agent Experience Designer could become increasingly important. The most valuable professionals may be those who combine human judgement + business knowledge + AI capability. And most importantly, I share one simple thing you can start doing now: Don’t try to master AI. Pick one real task and start experimenting. AI can help you draft, summarise, analyse and create.
