Track 9: Reels: The Mountain Top / Creamer’s / Kiltytown

Track 9 from the 2019 album 'Humours of Derrynacoosan' by fiddle and tin whistle player Mossie Martin. Featuring John Blake on piano. The first tune is a favourite of the North Connaught tradition and was recorded in New York in 1924 by the fiddler players James Morrison and Paddy Killoran. The second reel here was the first tune that Michael Creamer always played. He was from Northern Ireland, most likely Belfast, and travelled around Co. Leitrim during the 1920s and 30s working on various farms for little more than his food and bed. He was what was locally referred to as a ‘homeboy’ and the great flute player John Blessing (1913 - 1993) from Aughavas, Co. Leitrim remembered him as a lovely whistle player with a small repertoire. Kiltytown refers to Kiltyclogher, Co. Leitrim and is one of Charlie Lennon’s best known compositions.
