In my opinion Hugo's Frollo is better person than Disney's because he has hurtfull heart and real feelings for Esmeralda (not only lust and passion). And... He's priest. Seriously, to be priest and to love this gypsy girl is more dramatic than to be cruel judge! So, that's why here you see Hugo's Frollo. Plot. I think it's rather simple to understand but ok. Frollo is priest of Notre Dame. One winter day he finds a beautiful gypsy girl lying near cathedral and saves her from cold death. For him it's love with a first sight but at the same time it's a terrible sin. Full of religious fear Frollo runs away before Esmeralda wakes up. Some months later Frollo meets Esmeralda again. She prays for her savior in Notre Dame. Frollo wants to tell girl who it was but instead of this banishes her because of his sin-fear. Esmeralda lefts cathedral but not Frollo's mind.He still thinks about her, about her dance at the Fest of Fools... He even starts to see hallucinations! Insane, fulfill of love and religious feelings Frollo decides that to be in Hell with his beloved is better than alone in Heaven. At this time he hears that the crowd outside wants to burn a witch... He tries to save Esmeralda again but fire is everywhere, no chance for escape. And at the end dreams of priest and gypsy come to life. He is in Hell with his love, She knows who saved her.
