Collar & Pulley | Solving with energy conservation | Dynamics

Welcome to Engineering Hack! In today's video we looking into a collar and pulley system to which a constant force is applied. Now instead of solving using Newton's laws, we want to evaluate the problem taking into account energy conservation. The idea is that a force applied for a certain distance is equal to the energy given to the system (E = ⌡Fd). This energy cannot be created or destroyed (first law of thermodynamics) and if we are assuming that the system is frictionless (which simplifies the solving), then all the energy given by the external force has to be converted into kinetic energy for our collar-pulley system or potential energy for our collar-pulley system. We use this fact as the basis to solve the question at hand. Have a good before watching the video and let me know if you have any comments below! Problem statement: The system shown is at rest when a constant 150 – N force is applied to collar B. (a) If the force acts through the entire motion, determine the speed of collar B as it strikes the support at C. (b) After what distance d should the 150 N force be removed if the collar is to reach support C with zero velocity?
