"It was horrible at the time, but it made me want never to do that (have a student unprepared for a competition) to anyone that I'm teaching," she said. --- [media excerpts] EDMONDS, Wash. -- Rosalynn Sumners is both artist and athlete on ice skates, and it's the most athletic aspect of her sport that could pose a dilemma for her in the upcoming world figure skating championships. Sumners, the newly crowned U.S. champion, leaves March 2 for the world competition in Copenhagen, Denmark, which begin March 11. Her goal is to finish in the top three in her initial appearance in world senior competition. Sumners, 17, catapulted past two favored competitors with a beautiful freestyle skating performance to win the U.S. title in Indianapolis in January. The diminutive blonde is considered by some to be the best women's freestyle skater competing in the world and it's the artistry of her skating that may set her apart from the rest of the field. But for the first time in her 10-year skating career, Sumners has been confronted with injury. Sumners was the one who was cool and collected last month as she moved from a fifth-place position after the compulsory figures into first with an impressive freestyle program. By contrast, defending national champion Elaine Zayak, 16, fell several times during her program and finished third. Vikki de Vries, the 1980 junior champion, was also shaky in her routine and placed second. ---- No marks in footage, but here they were: Sumners 5.5 5.6 5.6 5.5 5.7 5.7 5.8 5.5 5.6 5.6 5.7 5.7 5.6 5.8 5.8 5.8 5.7 5.8 Zayak 5.2 5.4 5.4 5.4 5.4 5.6 5.5 5.2 5.2 5.1 5.5 5.2 5.5 5.4 5.4 5.4 5.0 5.2 de Vries 5.1 5.5 5.4 5.2 5.4 5.4 5.3 5.2 5.4 5.1 5.5 5.5 5.3 5.5 5.5 5.3 5.3 5.5 Hill 4.7 4.6 4.7 4.9 4.7 5.1 4.8 5.1 4.6 4.9 4.9 5.0 5.0 4.9 5.2 5.1 5.0 4.6 #figureskating #フィギュアスケート #eiskunstlauf #фигурноекатание #pattinaggioartistico #patinageartistique thanks to Kim!
