Spinocerebellar Ataxia: Symptoms, Types & Genetic Inheritance
Spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA) is a group of rare, inherited neurological disorders that affect coordination, balance, and speech due to degeneration in the brain and spinal cord. SCAs are classified as autosomal dominant ataxias and include multiple subtypes, from SCA1 to SCA37, along with episodic ataxias and rare conditions like DRPLA. Symptoms can appear at any age, leading to progressive difficulties with movement and daily activities. This video on Spinocerebellar Ataxia is brought to you by NORD (National Organization for Rare Disorders).
