Bothwell Castle: The Broken Tower and the Ghost by the Clyde

Filmed in real rain above the River Clyde, this OrbitalFlyers film explores the story behind Bothwell Castle’s broken tower. Bothwell was built to be one of Scotland’s strongest medieval castles. Its great red sandstone donjon was massive, powerful, and almost impossible to ignore. But during the Wars of Independence, that strength became the problem. Edward I besieged Bothwell in 1301, bringing a great siege tower called le berefrey from Glasgow. Later, Edward III used Bothwell as a military headquarters in Scotland. When Andrew Moray retook the castle, he helped break the tower so it could not be used again by the English. But Bothwell has another story too. Down by the Clyde, local legend tells of Bonnie Jean, a young woman who tried to escape the life chosen for her, only for the river to take her and the man she loved. This is the story of Bothwell Castle, its broken tower, and the ghost said to cry by the Clyde when the weather turns. Filmed with DJI drones in real Scottish rain.
