Hudson Bay Tea Picking
Spending time on the land and harvesting with your family is a great way to collect traditional foods and share quality time together. The goal of Tlingit & Haida's Traditional Food Security Department is to share knowledge and show people how to harvest and process traditional foods. In this video, Claude Young shows his 5-year-old son how to find Xíl Kagán (Hudson Bay Tea, which is also called Swamp Tea or Labrador Tea) in the same muskeg where he used to go picking with his grandfather. Claude explains what to look for, how to pick the leaves and process them into tea. Gunalchéesh, Háw’aa to the Newman's Own Foundation for providing funding for these videos so the Tribe can continue to share stories and teach people how to preserve our way of life.
