She won the Golden Horse Award for Best Actress for this film, breaking a record that had stood for 25 years. The previous record holder was Li Xiaolu, who won at 17 for *Xiu Xiu: The Sent-Down Girl*. The 12-year-old Golden Horse Best Actress became the youngest actress in Golden Horse history. The film received polarized reviews, not only because it depicted an illicit love affair, but also because it refused to make you feel comfortable sympathizing with anyone. The protagonist, Zhou Xiaoxiao, is a child with ADHD. She can't sit still, can't control herself, and can't even do simple addition and subtraction. When her emotions flare up, she screams in traffic and hits her head violently. Everyone at school says she's "sick" and needs medication. But aren't these bullies sick too? There's also Paul and his mother, their shameless infidelity, and the father who pretends to love his daughter but is often absent. At the end of the film, the father once again flies away without looking back. The mother breaks down and rushes into her daughter's room, mimicking Xiaoxiao's behavior, yelling and smashing things. But this time, Xiaoxiao is unusually calm. Xiaoxiao's breakdown can be managed with medication, but an adult's breakdown is incurable. Perhaps the director is trying to say that we all try to play the role of a normal person, but in reality, from a child's perspective, all adults are not quite normal.
